Juliet Yaa Asantewa is the CEO of the National film Authority of Ghana, the recent past Board Chair of the National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI) of Ghana and the Founding President of the Black Star International Film Institute, organizers of the Black Star International Film Festival (BSIFF).
She is a global speaker and an award winner and chairs the Curriculum committee of the Creative Arts School, a revolutionary educational concept by the Ministry of Education in Ghana. She is the founder of the Yaa Asantewa Library project; building and stocking libraries in Ghanaian communities.
She is a management consultant, change agent and change manager and has been described as a strategic and innovative thinker.
Juliet served on the World Economic Forum’s Global Entertainment Council for two years, playing a key role in the Council’s strategic direction.
She has a long acting career behind her, appearing in films like ‘Deadly voyage’, an HBO production. Awarded ‘Best Actress’ in Ghana in 2001. Producing some of the most successful programming on Ghana television. As a film Director, her last film, SilveRain, was nominated for “Best Film in Africa and the best film in West served on the World Economic Forum’s Global Entertainment Council for two years, playing a key role in the Council’s strategic direction.
Juliet wrote and directed Silverain, nominated for “best film in Africa” ‘best film in West Africa and “Best costume” for 2015 in the Africa Magic viewer’s choice awards (AMVCA), the largest film awards in Africa. SilveRain went on to garner over 13 nominations worldwide
She was one of first people to pioneer the idea of short films made especially for your mobile phones. Working with some of the largest network providers on the continent of Africa, including MTN to launch Mobilefliks; short films made for your mobile phones in 2013
She is a screenwriter and regular writer and blogger, including blogging for the Huffington Post for a number of years.
She served as a Mentor on Entrepreneurship at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Legatum center under the Sloan school of business from 2013 and lectured Mass Communication at the Webster University, Ghana campus in 2017.
Juliet is a graduate of the Harvard Kennedy school, a mason fellow, a Legatum fellow and an Aspen fellow
