About the Event
Our flagship event will take place from May 23rd – 27th 2023 in Kigali, Rwanda. The Africa Soft Power Summit represents the premier event for Africa’s creative and tech industries, as well as women’s leadership, attracting speakers and delegates from across the continent and around the world. The environment provides a fresh take on the traditional conference format, with breakout sessions, social events, roundtables and workshops, and plenty of scope for more networking along the way.
Thematic Areas
The session will focus on these key intersecting themes:
Women’s leadership: Hitting the reset button on gender and reframing African women’s leadership as a key strength in tackling global challenges
Creative power & modern economics: From the continent to the diaspora – why it’s imperative to leverage African creativity today to fuel the global creative, digital, and knowledge economies of tomorrow
Celebrating modern African and diaspora voices within the global discourse, and retelling the African story on the world stage
These three themes will in-turn provide the foundations for three days of convenings, each offering a unique take on African soft power, and how it can be better leveraged to propel the continent forward.
Summit Overview
RAW Women’s Leadership Conference | May 24th
Powered by African Women on Board and showcasing leading female and male voices alike, from minute one our RAW Women’s Leadership Conference will push the reset button on traditional gender discourse. If DEI had been invented TODAY, what would we do differently? How would we think about, or communicate, or move towards, greater equality in both the workplace and society at large? If we began with a blank canvas in 2023, what would true global diversity, equality, and inclusion look like?
Accelerating women’s leadership in the fields and sectors that most impact the world is key to addressing the intersectional issues of our time. But leadership is also about active participation in workplaces, communities, governments and other spheres of lives.
This session outlines why we’re in the room for the day’s proceedings, bringing together speakers from law, health, media, energy, & finance, to consider a different approach to women’s leadership that can facilitate systems change and reshape environments to become places that accommodate growth and encourage women to realise their full potential.
Keywords: leadership, systems change, intersectionality, sustained impact, policy, partnerships, power dynamics
Gender inequality is one of the most important issues of our time, threatening both lives and economies. And for years, this issue has been framed as the sole domain of the public and social sectors, leaving the private sector on the outside looking in. But what role can the private sector take in shaping modern gender discourse and in generating greater gender equity, both in terms of changing narratives and impacting outcomes?
Keywords: Social change, corporate culture, collective action, interventions, modern economics
Leveraging private sector resources, strategies and innovative financing mechanisms to create an inclusive investment environment that addresses the funding gap women business owners face.
Keywords: High-impact investments, partnerships, venture capital, private equity, funding gap, women founders

Africa has a dearth of data problems, which makes targeted and informed interventions cumbersome. Data gaps mean that the continent is losing money because of lost opportunities, ineffective policies and inefficient resource allocation.
On the other hand, when bad data is propagated by large, credible organizations, policymakers, investors, governments and other stakeholders reason that these organizations must be the most credible data sources and often make planning or investment decisions accordingly.
In instances where opportunities are understated or overstated, investments mandates miss the realities of the marketplace. So, how can stakeholders in Africa’s business ecosystem confront this issue?
