Rob Marriott

Robert Marriott is an author, editor, producer and DJ who has traveled to more than 21 countries on three continents. His byline has appeared in numerous periodicals, including Complex, Spin, Rolling Stone, Blender, Vibe, the Village Voice, Arise, and New York. He has also served as a staff writer, senior editor, and creative director for magazines such as The Source, XXL, and Canoe.

An award-winning journalist, Marriot’s work has been published in a number of “best of” collections including The Vibe History of Hip-Hop (Three Rivers Press) and It Don’t Stop: The Best American Hip-Hop Journalism of the Last 25 Years (Faber & Faber), among others. He is also the author of Pimpnosis, a coffee table book published by Harper Collins.

In 2002, he moved to Lusaka, Zambia. While there, he served as Creative Director for the United Nations World Food Programme’s Annual Report from 2002-2006 where he wrote, edited, and designed stories around the UN’s efforts to provide food to primary school children throughout the globe.

As a producer, Marriott’s work has included concerts, big-budget photo shoots, and live events in New York, Accra, Cape Town, and Johannesburg. He’s produced several documentaries, including Thug Immortal and Gangtresses which both hit the top five on Billboard’s video chart and stayed there for several weeks. He wrote, produced, and choreographed the South African launch of the Ghanaian magazine Canoe in Johannesburg, which featured both a fashion show and concert. Along with a contingent of businessmen and NGOs, Marriott hosted Jay-Z and Beyoncé in Ghana, Nigeria, and South Africa and helped organize the building of water pumps for rural communities in the region. He is currently working on Criminal Minded, a scripted series for Amazon.
