Sophie Masipa
Sophie Masipa is the Founder of Fikira Consulting, a pan-African consultancy specializing in strategic brand and communications, market-entry as well as philanthropy consulting. The consultancy, through its partnerships and footprint in over 15 countries, focuses on providing in-depth understanding of the African landscape to new entrants, devising strategies and outreach programmes for companies to position them in new markets. Sophie is also Co-Founder of Kgommu International, an infrastructure development and investment company.
Prior to returning to her entrepreneurial endeavors in 2018, Sophie Masipa was the Head of Communications and Media Relations at the Mo Ibrahim Foundation, responsible for all communications aspects for the Foundation’s work in Africa and globally. Before Fikira Consulting, Sophie was the communications manager, brand strategy and implementation, at Brand South Africa, responsible for reputation building and management of the South African brand. She worked on large projects such as the 2010 World Cup, World Economic Forum – Davos and Africa (2009-2011).
Sophie has also occupied various brand and marketing positions within Brand South Africa, Unilever, Colgate-Palmolive and Nedbank. She has solid experience and track record in areas of marketing, branding and communications. In 2018, Sophie was named one of the Top 100 Most Influential People of African Descent Under 40 in the Diaspora under the Governance and Politics Category. In 2019, she was named a Crans Montana Fellow. In 2020, Sophie served on Africa Union-AfroChampions Committee organizing the activities for the AFCTA Inaugural Africa Integration Day.
Sophie sits on the Advisory Board of Africa Communications Week. She is a member of the African Circular Economy Network, the London Circular Economy Network, Africa 2.0 and the African Leadership Network. She is passionate about African development.
