Rufaro Samanga is a South African-Zimbabwean multi-media journalist and writer covering both culture and gender politics in Africa. Her specialties include: critiquing the state of gender-based violence and femicide in South Africa, profiling influential women, producing artist biographies and music reviews, highlighting African Literature as well as offering critical opinion pieces on topical current affairs.
Her work has been featured in OkayAfrica, True Africa, Standard Bank and Warner Records UK and cited by Aljazeera, Middle East Eye, KOLUMN Magazine, Black Economics, Cosmopolitan SA, The Herald Zimbabwe and several others. She has also done on-air commentary for the BBC World Service and Power FM. Additionally, she is a creative copywriter who has worked for Showmax and Disney Africa.
Rufaro has a Masters degree in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from the University of the Witwatersrand. Her podcast, The Blackademic Show, is an exploration of the challenges faced by Black academics.
